Conference Spotlight: SCBWI North Texas 2013 Regional Conference

It’s been said many times before: the downside of DFWcon is that it comes but once a year!

However, we are hugely fortunate that the DFW metroplex has so many other great opportunities and venues for writers to meet and work on their craft.  Today, we’d like to spotlight one that’s happening right in our very own back yard: the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ 2013 North Texas Regional Conference!

“Creating Kids’ Books That Soar”

This all-day conference will be held on Saturday, September 21st at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel in Arlington, TX.  They’ve got a star-studded guest list, including author Jill S. Alexander, Krista Marino of Delacorte Press, NYT best-selling author and SCBWI co-founder Lin Oliver, and Marietta Zacker of the Nancy Gallt Literary Agency.  Topics include current events in the children’s publishing industry, plus a variety of craft classes – plot, voice, dialogue, great beginnings, and more! – and a cocktail reception afterward, perfect for rubbing elbows with these stellar luminaries.  (Lin’s closing keynote, “12-Plus Most Important Things I’ve Learned About Writing for Children,” promises to be especially unmissable!)

This conference is perfect for authors writing for children of every age, from board books all the way up through YA.  However, early registration ends August 24th, so if you even think you might like to attend, head over to their site and check it out!
