Agent/Editor Genre Chart
This chart shows which genres the agents and editors are interested in. Use it to help you decide who to approach with your pitch. Avoid awkward moments by knowing which genres an agent represents before you pitch!
When and how do we schedule our pitch sessions and workshops? (I have registered)
Hey Ann, great to hear that you have registered. We are excited you’ll be joining us this year. Scheduling of pitch session and workshops will be happening closer to the conference dates. Be looking for announcements next month about how to do that.
Instructions for how to sign up for your session are now available at http://dfwcon.org/2013/03/12/pitch-session-registration-has-begun/.
I’m interested in meeting publicists; are any presenting at DFWCon?
Camille
Hello Camille. As a matter of fact we do have a publicist joining us. Kelly P. Simmon of InkslingPR will be at the conference and will be doing a class on marketing. We even have an article on her, here on the website.
Which category would a non-fiction book on “Fixing American Education–No Money Needed” written by a teacher, me. Actually in the process of being written…early stages. Thanks…!
I would try Social Issues/Current Affairs.
The chart has been updated to reflect the most recent addition to the lineup, Kathleen Zakhar, and also some adjustments by our other agents. Most notably, Louise Fury has changed from a Yes to a No on steampunk. She’s no longer interested in that genre.
This is my first conference, and I was wondering if you knew the general time frames the pitch sessions would be happening? I may have to miss a little of the conference on Sunday morning, so I want to make sure what the possible conflicts might be. Thanks!
Most of the people that already signed-up for the conference will be scheduled on Saturday.
Thanks so much!
On Saturday pitch sessions will run roughly from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday they’ll run roughly from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a break for lunch. Each agent’s pitch schedule will be shaped by what else he or she is doing at the conference — teaching classes, sitting on panels etc.
Will we be told when our specific pitch session is? If so, when will this info be available?
Hi Cindy, I’ll be sending you an email with your pitch session information approximately two weeks before the conference.
Wonderful! Thank you!
It’s less than two weeks away, and I haven’t received information on my pitch slot yet.
I don’t know what happened to my post, but I’m curious about when we’ll receive our pitch slots. You had said they will be emailed two weeks before the conference, but I’m concerned that I haven’t gotten mine yet. Have they not gone out, or is there some issue on my end?
Hi Lanette and everyone,
I’m well into sending out pitch session notifications, but there are still quite a few to send. I’ll get everyone their information as soon as possible. I know you’re all eager to find out who you got!
If you are concerned about your message going into your spam folder, the message will come from the address steve at dfwcon dot org and the subject line will say “DFWCon pitch session.” You can whitelist my email address to ensure it makes it to your inbox.
Steve
Hi Steve,
I really appreciate all the hard work you’re doing on this. It can’t be an easy task. Sorry to be a nag about this, but its getting down to the wire for making travel arrangements and I still haven’t received my pitch slot. I can’t attend both days, so I have to choose one. Can you at least give ballpark times of when the pitch sessions begin and end (ie, from 9 to 5 Saturday, etc.) Even than little bit of information will help me out.
Thanks so much,
Cindy Little
Cindy,
As it happens, your name came up tonight in the list I’m working through and I have sent your information.
Hi Steve,
I’m worried about my slot, too. It’s only a few days away.
Hi Steve. I, too, signed up late under the name Karen Walters but I haven’t heard anything yet as far as my slot. I hope it didn’t get lost in the interwebosphere.
